Sometime last year, we had a first time inquiry from a business person on TikTok, who was also a first time importer. She was on the lookout for household products to add to her line of business as she wanted to start a new venture. We were somewhere in between getting the details for her order and getting her to understand our service options when she told us about her skepticism for Chinese products.
Obviously, this subject isn’t new to us. I mean being in the business long enough, you get these questions and hear first hand experiences from the market and client experiences where a business exchange turned sour due to the quality of the production being substandard.
If these things happen, then it begs the question. Are Chinese products fake?
It is important to note that China is the manufacturing giant of the world, and the majority of the products you see or use are either made or assembled in China. However China still ranks as one of the countries with high counterfeit production in the world. The takeaway here is that these counterfeit products are mostly produced on demand by manufacturers to fit into the specifications and budget of the buyer which tells you that to a greater percentage, the decision is up to you to make.
You may ask, “But how do I control these choices when I do not know what to look out for?”
That’s why we are here isn’t it?
These are what you should know; Don’t worry, we will keep it simple and short.
1. A higher percentage of counterfeit products are found in branded products. Usually the buyers demand branded products that are substandard to market.
2. There’s always a product grade for your budget and specifications. The key is to negotiate thoroughly with your supplier to work with your budget and get the best grades for your order.
3. Because some businesses want to maximize cost in exchange for product quantity, there’s always a supplier and a product grade for their needs.
4. Again, like we have said in a couple of our published posts, Research is important in any business venture. Do your research about the product features before you negotiate.
Lastly, of course, like every other market there are bad eggs in the supply chain. Working with a sourcing agent is also important as they help to validate your order and ensure your needs are met. This is where we come in. We have helped quite a handful of businesses with satisfactory purchases in a seamless manner.
In conclusion, just like we told the wonderful lady who came to inquire about our services, you have control over product quality, just as long as you relay your message efficiently to the supplier and follow through the process.
We hope you found this was informative. If you have further questions for us, do not hesitate to reply this email 😊
